Mission Statement

The mission of BeingInvisible.ca is to amplify public awareness of the challenges and obstacles faced by people living with an invisible disease. People living with invisible diseases don’t often “look sick” and are often misperceived and sometimes misjudged because of this. With this blog, I’m hoping to break through these misperceptions and reach people from all walks of life, including doctors in general, clinic/hospital medical staff, patients, and, of course, friends and family especially—as they are the ones who too often don’t truly understand the severity and complexity of these illnesses, the impact they have on our lives, and subsequently, on theirs as well. BeingInvisible.ca is also aimed at reaching people who are suffering from all types of illnesses, visible or not, to hopefully help them better cope and manage their lives that have been transformed by disease.

Since I can no longer perform as a singer, I have filled that void by listening to music every day. Losing myself to music has been my salvation; it's where I escape from the pain and misery that accompanies me almost every day. I don't know what I would do without it. It has become a pillar upon which I lean every day to survive. I even have a "sleep" playlist that I've created that helps keep my mind from wandering and spiralling into the abyss of self-pity and sorrow. The two most important artists in my life are Elvis Presley and U2. Both artists have impacted my life in ways that are hard to put into words. Ironically, my 1st Chapter entry will feature "Holly Holy," a song by Neil Diamond!

I invite you to enjoy the song that helped inspire me to create this BLOG - U2's "Invisible."

Sincerely,

Your Friendly Neighbourhood Bionic Man

Invisible – U2

It’s like the room just cleared of smoke
I didn't even want the heart you broke
It’s yours to keep
You just might need one

I finally found my real name
I won’t be me when you see me again
No, I won’t be my father’s son

I’m more than you know
I’m more than you see here
More than you let me be
I’m more than you know
A body in a soul
You don’t see me but you will
I am not invisible

I don’t dream, not as such
I don’t even think about you that much
Unless I start to think at all

All those frozen days
And your frozen ways
They melt away your face like snow

I’m more than you know
I’m more than you see here
I’m more than you let me be
I’m more than you know
A body in a soul
You don’t see me but you will
I am not invisible
I am here

There is no them
There’s only us
There is no them
There’s only us

And there’s only me
There is no them
